Typical indie haircut, typical indie glasses, but that's about all that's typical about this twenty-something songwriter. Confused by life, scared of death, heartbroken, but ultimately content, Ryne Watts writes songs about what he knows -- the people he loves, the places he's been, and all the experiences and emotions associated with them.
Though raised on folk greats like Odetta, Cash, and Dylan, and taught his first songs -- folk songs -- on guitar at age 5 by his dad, a teenage Watts strayed from his roots to play rock and roll. It didn't take long for Watts to realize that he was meant for folk music. But donŐt confuse him for just another self-serious songwriter:
I'm not even close to understanding the complexities of life but I am sure gonna to try and sing about it. I've got a ways to go to become the writer I want to be, but I hope I can maybe make some kind of difference or at least make some damn good music.Blending the pop sensibilities he learned in the rock bands of his teenage years with simple and honest lyrics, Watts plays down to earth folk music that tell the stories of protest, mourning, and joy -- the universal truths to which we all can relate.
