NEWS: 06.27.06 i love rock'n'roll! once again, as in years past, WILL ROCK FOR FOOD was a rousing success! to all who came out to The Focal Point this past saturday, thank you! we raised a lot of money & collected two big barrels full of cans for the St Louis Area Foodbank, & we couldn't have done it without your support! in addition to you, the music-listening & show-going populace, there were quite a few people who were involved in making this compilation CD & its release show as awesome as it was: * daniel williams @ backhouse recording services for stepping in at the very last minute to save our collective ass on the art front, for mastering the CD, for helping with disc duplication & album assembly, & for organizing & running sound the night of the show; * the bands who played amazing sets one & all; * the bands who donated tracks to make this our lengthiest (& scene-cred-worthiest) compilation -- even the ones who made me stalk them out; * nathan prater @ House of Eight Legs for cutting us a great deal on t-shirts, buttons, & magnets, & then turning around & doing a stellar job on all of it; * brian scheffer @ Firebrand Recording for loaning his PA & other audio gear to us (including that beautiful blue snake!); * carol kuntz @ The Focal Point for donating the space to us for the evening despite her reservations about rock shows; * tom lampe & brett beckemeyer for taking photos, even though they had every right to just kick back & enjoy the night; * sarah williams for videotaping the whole thing, even when she was so tired she could barely raise her arms; * val benoist, for graciously assisting with merch sales; * & seymour butts, esq. WILL ROCK FOR FOOD III will be available at Vintage Vinyl by the beginning of july, &, as always, all proceeds from the sale of WRFF merch will go to the St Louis Area Foodbank from now till we sell it all out!
NEWS: 06.05.06 this time, it's personal so we're entering Will Rock For Food crunch time now, which means i'll spend the bulk of my time between today & june 24th: moving tiny blocks of text; asking people, "drop shadow or no drop shadow?"; cursing; being chained to the printer; never going grocery shopping; making lists; & trying to remember why the first year was so stressful when i wasn't even working full-time that summer, let alone 50+ hours a week. we have a saying around these parts that goes like this: "what i know is what YOU know." so here's what i know: we have a compilation CD. it's pretty great. its twenty-four tracks clock in at 77 minutes. THAT, my friends, is what is known in the industry as a GD BARGAIN. this CD has some artwork. this is not the first version of the artwork, which was scrapped last week (at two weeks past the deadline). this is new art that has been refigured entirely. this is sort of like the time i wrote a twenty-pager for one of my judaic studies classes three days before it was due, except i'd already spent two weeks researching another topic & had in fact written a good eight pages on it before re-evaluating & deciding to do some kind of zoharic exegesis instead. only instead of doing this for an A in the class, we're doing this for YOU, our loyal public. this CD will have a release. this release is scheduled for june 24 at the focal point in maplewood. the cost is $5 if you bring two canned goods for the st louis area foodbank. if you forget, shop'n'save is across the street. or, if you're really that lazy, you can just pay $9. at this show, we will have merch. merch includes: the current comp, the 2k4 & 2k5 comps, old shirts, new shirts, stickers, buttons, magnets, & possibly a pinata. all proceeds from the sale of Will Rock For Food merch -- as well as all door money -- go to the st louis area foodbank. besides buying things, a big reason you should attend this show is that five awesome bands will be playing. these bands are (in alphabetical order): The Aquatic Record, Corbeta Corbata, Gentleman Auction House, Johnny O & the Jerks, & The Monads. we love these bands. if it were legal, we would marry these bands. you also love & would perhaps share in some kind of polygamist illicit love with these bands, i assume. so let's not be coy. that's pretty much all i know about this show right now. i think i've held up my end of the bargain admirably. now it's YOUR turn to do the same. rock!
NEWS: 05.04.06 we've seen a million faces & we've rocked them all it's been a hair-raising couple of months here at MHR World HQ (temporarily located at WUSM b/c i can only update this thing on my lunchbreak), but the unfortunate thing is that most of the goings-on are of the behind-the-scenes variety, where you're walking around not knowing that anything's up till BAM! Will Rock For Food comes together, seemingly effortlessly. you & i, though, we know the truth. the truth is that our deadline for track submission was the 30th & we're about halfway there, which is amazing progress disguised by what sounds like a mediocre assessment. but HELL, we've courted bands via email & in person, we've followed them to shows, we've shaken hands & kissed babies -- all for YOU, the consumers of stl's finest rock &/or roll. not to mention the energy involved in organizing & putting on this, well, "rock spectacle" may be pushing it, but would i be wrong in calling it a testament to our love of the scene? it seems like now would be the perfect time to mention that we have a date, so ... JUNE 24, 2006 (i love queen, shut up.)
