NEWS: 12.18.05 i certainly hope you're happy first & foremost, allow us to present to you the MapleHood Rekkids image retrospective: two years in photos, painstakingly culled from the thousands & thousands of jpegs on my hard drive. did i mention thousands? because THOUSANDS, people. holy moly. when we managed to snatch a free moment out of the jaws of the evil photo project, we bopped on over to brian & took a listen to a couple tracks off his album, "When Sitting Silent Gets Too Quiet," & let me tell you something -- this album? is TREMENDOUS. it is well worth the wait, hand to god, & we feel more confident than ever that the Aquatic Record/MHR alliance will result in great things. now we're just waiting for the go-ahead on a january/february date from the Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center to start promoting the hell out of it. oh yeah, & we have two mp3s up of rough mixes: Between a Casket and a Hard Place & The Fall of Devotion. as for our big announcement, MapleHood Rekkids is thrilled to add Ryne Watts to our roster of artists! his solo project has grown out of what used to be The Okay Club, which was an admittedly brief but nonetheless worthwhile foray into the world of folk/pop duos. personal & logistical reasons led to the untimely demise of The Okay Club, but ryne has made the transition into a solo performer quite ably, & we anticipate an early spring release from him. he's currently working on his album at backhouse recording services & has a couple MP3s from those sessions up on his myspace profile, so make with the clickety-click & check those puppies out!
NEWS: 12.07.05 i know, ok? I KNOW. yeah yeah we're woefully out of date, i am FULLY AWARE of the situation & everything is UNDER CONTROL. srsly. almost ready to announce the release date for The Aquatic Record's debut, almost ready to make another announcement, & almost ready to unveil the new & improved photo gallery -- & then life will return to normal & everyone will get off my GD case, right? THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT. punks. a teaser ...
ryne + me + caroline + brian @ the red sea, 12/04/05.
NEWS: 10.19.05 did i say photos by the 15th? b/c i meant to say the 31st.
NEWS: 09.29.05 local girls make good! the RFT says: "The party line about St. Louis is that we have no local record labels -- and, by extension, no good local record labels. Well, somebody forgot to tell Maplehood [sic] Rekkids, a -- where else? -- Maplewood-based label that's quietly doing its part to support the scene. Despite the demise of angular noisemongers Commichung and venerable soul-punkers Adam's Off Ox this past summer, the label is repping for the Lou's underground with winsome indie folksters the Okay Club, hardcore-turned-acoustic-troubadour Brian Potts' Aquatic Record, junkpile groover Stendek and banjo-pickin' rockers the Monads. Plus, its yearly Will Rock for Food benefit show for the St. Louis Area Foodbank continues to help feed the hungry -- to date, Maplehood [sic] has donated nearly $1,700 to the cause." of course, the irony of these accolades coming at a time when we've got stuff at a low simmer instead of the rolling boil of months past hasn't escaped us, but more to the point, accolades are accolades, & BABY, WE HAVE THEM. & i know, i know, I KNOW, my children, you are all crying out to me, WHY DO YOU REFUSE TO UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE MORE THAN ONCE A MONTH? WHY, WHEN WE NEED INFORMATIONS TO SURVIVE, WHY DO YOU DENY US? kids, we're both working stiffs now! gone are the days of nannying, &, by extension, flexible schedules. the 655am-alarm reign of terror continues unabated & I HAVE NO TIME FOR THE INTERNERD, what with these 10+ hour days at work & the necessity of grocery shopping &, ok, fine, Family Guy watching. I KNOW YOU NEED MORE. I'M TRYING. to that end, i promise there will be many many new photos up by october 15, & also maybe a special MP3 treat or two provided permissions are granted & that sort of thing. business-wise, well, senor whitenoise from the AOO is en route to portland with his wife (& loyal-MHR-supporter) peg, there to pursue culinary school (the pegster, not whitenoise); Stendek is still recording feverishly in his basement when he's not spinning at the Atomic Cowboy; & our beloved Brian Potts, self-proclaimed "savior of MapleHood," has been recording at backhouse recording services for a projected november release. finally, MHR wishes to extend its most sincere congratulations & its maddest props ever to good friends The Unholy Effers, who were recently signed to chicago's Thick Records & who have a full-length album coming out this spring! we love you guys!
