fance feleases ferrific falbum!

hey, guess what? friday is the big CD release show for fance's first full-length album, "Falbum"! it's taking place at the Clubhouse next to 4714 Kellykris Court in St Charles, & for this show only, the disc will be sold for $4! don't miss it!

also coming up this friday is commichung's big night at the way out club for the Emergenza Festival semifinals. the show is 21+ & last i heard, they'll be playing third, possibly around 9pm. if you can't make it out to st charles to catch fance, maybe you can make it to south city to catch the chung? just a thought.

MapleHood Rekkids extends its deepest sympathies to phil & his family on the loss of their mother yesterday afternoon. she was like a second mom to me, too, & we will all feel her absence very keenly. in lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the wellness community.

four weeks of news, one easy list

ok, you know how sometimes your computer breaks & then you don't have access to certain files you need, & then you get it back from being repaired & it breaks again within the first ten minutes of its being turned on & so you have to take it BACK to the apple store at west county mall to have it fixed AGAIN even though it really should've been fixed properly the first, second, third, or fourth times? yeah. the last month or so has been like that. good times.

just so everyone's up to speed, then:

  • galaxy rock meats william will, in fact, be releasing their much-anticipated MapleHood Rekkids debut sometime in the nearish future; i know we've been saying that for the last six months but i really mean it this time!

  • fance will be recording their new album at the penny recording studio in short order; look for it to come out in late april.

  • stendek will be playing an ALS benefit concert at The Savoy in Ferguson on march 19. according to their website, the show will be recorded & released through The Friday Group, & in my estimation, it'd be worth your while to pre-order the disc b/c i've heard some of the new stuff he's working on & it's pretty amazing.

  • we've begun nailing down acts for this year's Will Rock For Food compilation & although i'm not yet at liberty to name names, i AM permitted to say that i'm ridiculously excited about some of the bands that agreed to donate tracks this year!

  • i've got a huge backlog of photos (going back to the end of december!) & i vow to get everything sorted through & uploaded before the sucktastic computer heads out on another field trip to west county for YET MORE REPAIRS B/C IT SUX0RZ.

  • finally, happy birthday to jen! we love you & we miss you! come home!!!!!

a special favor, an exclusive download, & a rare appearance

commichung pretty much rules. how else do you place fifth in the Emergenza Festival prelims & yet still get asked specially to move on to the semifinals by the crazily enthusiastic british emcee himself? apparently one of the winning bands had to bail & the chung was the first choice to replace them in the semifinals. who's making fun of mathrock NOW? yeah, that's what i thought. SUCKA.

no less triumphantly but with slightly less fanfare, the adam's off ox download "nic for pele" is now available at pitchfork & should be up for the next month or so. it's a track off their september 2004 release which you really ought to have picked up for yourself by now, but i thought i'd mention it anyway on the off chance that you've just been really busy & unable to swing it in the last five months.

finally, shut up & drive will be performing live at hartford coffee at the end of the month on thecommonspace.org's live talk show, free candy. it is exceedingly rare to catch them anywhere outside of my living room, so mark ye olde calendare now & be sure to get down there at 7pm on february 27. amanda & julia will also be interviewing caroline (aka Suit A) re: the DIY rock'n'roll aesthetic. thank you & goodnight.

hey, have you heard? MHR has LLC status! that's right, now when you leave us your fortunes in your wills, be sure to use our full name: "MapleHood Rekkids, LLC."

in other news, yesterday was our first planning meeting for Will Rock for Food II: The Rockening (caroline said i could call it that). things are bound to go so much smoother this time around, in part b/c i won't be frantically silkscreening & ironing two hundred t-shirts the week before the show. it's called PLANNING AHEAD. how very interesting.
