NEWS: 10.31.04 happy halloween! Adam's Off Ox @ Sally T's: Commichung + The Suits @ Mangia:
NEWS: 10.24.04 death is not an option thanks to everyone who made it out to schlafly last night despite that, uh, superbowl thing on TV. stanley cup. you know, the baseball thing. whatever. big ups especially to dan & whitenoise for the PA management, elizabeth for working the door, & the inimitable pegster for her mad merch skills. oh, & to the bottleworks for giving us the space & www.thecommonspace.org for helping us set up the show in the first place. coming up next weekend, we've got two radically different but equally bad-ass halloween shows, which means the label suits will either once again have to try the old flintstones being-in-two-places-at-once trick (does fred go to pebbles' birthday party or the lodge meeting?? he'll just attend both & wear different hats! hilarity ensues!) or we'll have to split up, which is sad-making but probably the best option. in the city, we've got Commichung opening for The Phonocaptors at Mangia Italiano on south grand; in st peters, we've got Adam's Off Ox playing with Madahoochi at Sally T's for her halloween ball. both shows are 21+, i'm sorry to say, but don't you worry your pretty little heads, my darlings -- there will be plenty of opportunities to catch both bands before winter begins! in other news, MapleHood favorite Stendek is making plans to hit the road & is already booked at Sally T's on november 26, so save the date, people, & get all your out-of-town friends & family to head out to olde towne st peters that night. guys, seriously, it's the friday after thanksgiving -- what else are you gonna do?
NEWS: 10.03.04 MapleHood Rekkids Acoustic(al) Showdown! oh, children, it's gonna be ok. yes, we wept a lttle when The Commonspace closed its doors at the end of september. EVEN I SHED A SINGLE PHOTOGENIC TEAR. & what of MHR's highly anticipated showcase, scheduled for october 23rd? YES, we cry, WHAT OF IT?? WHY GOD WHY. we wept & raged ... but through the sturm und drang, amanda & brian quietly arranged an alternate venue: the Schlafly Bottleworks in the heart of Maplewood. (REPRAZZENT!) so here is what you need to know: saturday, october 23, 2004 i'm not saying all's right in the world again; i'm just saying things are looking up.
NEWS: 10.02.04 all quiet on the midwestern front yeah, not much to see here. bunch of shows coming up this month, CDs & t-shirts for sale at vintage vinyl, etc etc etc. downtime is a wondrous thing.
NEWS: 09.18.04 "there's always money in the cashbox" last night's release party for Commichung's "fascist statement" was an unqualified success, & now that we've got THAT taken care of, we can rest on our laurels for a brief moment or two before resuming the climb to the top. oh, who am i kidding? we're already AT the top of the heap. eat your hearts out, losers.
NEWS: 09.06.04 brian molko mullet pics ok, someone did a search for "brian molko mullet pics" & wound up here. i find that mildly alarming. sadly, no one's searched for "scott freeman mullet pics" -- but if they WERE to perform such a search, well, i hate to break it to you but the mullet is no more! i saw it with my own eyes last night. however, this website is NOT devoted to scott's ever-changing hairstyle, so to at least pretend to stay on task, i should let you know that Adam's Off Ox busted our sales records at their CD release show last friday, & i only wish i could've been there to witness it in all its triumphant glory. on the plus side, all the photos kind of make me feel like i was there. kind of. but i WILL be there for Commichung's CD release on the 17th at lemp, &, you know, you should really be there, too, ok? THERE WILL BE SURPRISES. EXCITING, EXCITING SURPRISES. i've got the inside track on this one, so just trust me.
