things to do to maintain your hipness at its current level

hey, so i fixed my computer & it wasn't even lingering in nonfunctional limbo a whole month. i'm a total superstar.

the upshot of this is that i was finally able to download, resize, & upload the photos from The Monads' last show at sally t's.

love them chuck taylors

Monads, you will be missed.

we can't cry for long, though, b/c the fact of the matter is that Commichung booked their CD release show at lemp for september 17th, oh, & did i mention that other bands playing include that much-hyped supergroup with street cred out the ass, st louis' very own Dancing Feet March To War? b/c they'll be there, suckers, & so should you.

DON'T FORGET!!! Stendek's got his only local show of the summer at sally t's on august 5th, & a big turnout would be nice as he's not been in the central timezone for THREE MONTHS, oh, & let's not forget the huge acoustic show on august 6th at the commonspace to celebrate misc.'s opening, featuring caroline's über-hot chicago photos & not one, not two, but three -- YES, THREE -- bands repping the 'Hood. world domination begins ... nnnnnnnnow.

scuttlebutt 'round the mill ...

things you may need to know about las vegas:
- it's hot
- & this "dry heat" nonsense doesn't make a damn bit of difference
- the best vegetarian indian food EVER can be found at India Oven on sahara
- u-turns are legal
- drunk driving is not
- nor is ramming a car b/c they "deserve it" (drunk lady from saturday night, i'm looking in your direction)
- most importantly, Stendek's newly minted semi-collaborative side project is apparently -- & not surprisingly -- quite the success

in other news, rumor has it that the Tin Tree Factory/Anna Roland Vanarchy in the USA Tour '04 is going well, so all you west coast types should try to check them out if they're hitting up a town near you.

closer to home, us suits conducted a dinner meeting with representatives from Adam's Off Ox this evening (swank!), & word on the street is they've got a release date of september 3rd for their new album, Temporary Death Touch: The Movie. shindig at sally t's, openers TBA, expect festivities to last well into the night. plug it into your PDAs now, kids!

not to be outdone by The AOO, Commichung's working feverishly on their CD release soirée, too, & we'll soon have all the gory details right here, so watch this space. we're looking mid-september, & just a word to the wise: if all goes according to plan, it'll be a pretty big ticket & you won't wanna miss out. i'm not at liberty to divulge the details just yet, but trust me on this one: BIG EFFING TICKET.

upcoming dates of interest:

thursday, august 5th:
Stendek @ sally t's with matt & corey from Solomon's Lane; it's his first st louis-area performance since may 1st, people, & god only knows when he'll be back through again so just suck it up & drag your lazy carcasses out to st peters for one of the most engaging shows you'll see this summer

friday, august 6th:
Adam's Off Ox, Fance, & Tin Tree Factory @ the commonspace; they'll be playing at the opening of misc., a photo exhibit featuring the work of our very own Suit A, aka miss caroline hackmeyer (as well as other st louis community college advanced photography students)

finally, a shout-out to bob at kdhx is in order, as he's been very supportive of the Will Rock For Food compilation, playing Shut Up & Drive's track on the air & enthusiastically pimping the album (which, coincidentally, is for sale at vintage vinyl, hint hint). thanks a ton, scratchy bob!

... a fortune won & lost on every deal ...

fact: i'm hitting up las vegas in less than twelve hours to see exactly what kind of trouble our friend Stendek is getting himself into out there, so in the meantime, for your reading pleasure, there's a featurette on the 'Hood in this week's Riverfront Times.

no no, you can thank me later.

also: pie. pie pie pie & pie.

ok, & i'm kind of falling down on the job, but you should know that yesterday was our darling melissa's birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEL! furthermore, the 12th is jason's, so everyone head out to sally t's tomorrow night for the last Monads show & buy him a celebratory beer! (preferably after they play. heh.)

i've got good news & i've got bad news ...

first, the bad.

the bad news is that after august 14, 2004, The Monads will be no more -- SO YOU'D BETTER CATCH 'EM WHILE YOU CAN. they've got one more show scheduled -- july 09 @ sally t's with The Woodbox Gang -- & we're working on setting up a goodbye show in early august, so watch this space for details.

but we mustn't dwell on the bad when there's so much that's good & exciting -- namely, Fance will be releasing their EP metrognome NEXT WEEK at cuppajo in st charles (on the corner of wolfrum & 94). it's a FREE SHOW, people, so that means there's really no excuse for not purchasing their very reasonably priced album.

additionally, the Tin Tree Factory full-length (Rough Cuts) was unofficially released this weekend with little fanfare; there's no local CD release scheduled as john's hitting the road right away with miss anna roland, but the album will be available through vintagevinyl.com starting on july 10.

finally, if anyone can explain to me why OSX keeps crashing WHEN IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A STABLE OPERATING SYSTEM, feel free to drop me a line. there's nothing i like more than an emergency back-up & reformat of ye olde harde drive, especially when there's nothing big going on like, oh, say, two albums being prepped for release & two more waiting in the wings. HULK SMASH.
