we built this city on rock & roll

well ... we DID.

all right, i know what you're REALLY looking for, so i'll cut to the chase & give it to you: after counting up all the money we collected at the door, & after going through complicated merch calculations involving lots of "no, wait!"s & "oh, but you forgot about the seventeen [blank]"s, we determined that we'll be handing over a big fat $850 check to the st louis area foodbank at the end of the week. (or, more likely, $850 in small bills, b/c getting a cashier's check apparently costs money. uh, the hell?)

so, to conclude, we raised all that money plus 303 pounds of food, & just so you know, $850 translates to 8,420 pounds of food, giving us a grand total of 8,723 pounds of food, which, according to the food bank, will provide 5,816 meals.

NOW how awesome do you feel?

once again, thank you so much to everyone who participated -- it really doesn't go unappreciated around here, believe me.

ok, now what ..?

Will Rock For Food was a definite success! we collected more food than the barrels brought by the st louis area foodbank could contain & will be able to make a substantial cash donation as well. (our sleep-deprived state last night was just a math error waiting to happen, but when we get a final tally i will be sure to post it in letters TEN FEET HIGH for all to see & marvel at.)

the compilation is now on sale at vintage vinyl, & fear not, my generous chums -- any money we make from this in the future will go to the foodbank as well, so if for some mysterious unfathomable reason you weren't able to purchase a CD at the show (i know, do people like that even exist?), you can get a copy at vintage vinyl. just an FYI from me to you, b/c i care.

massive massive thanks to the following people:

* all the bands who played -- tin tree factory, shall we fance (the fance/shall we dance supergroup), the monads, village idiot, the phoney moaners, tok, galaxy rock meats william, & adam's off ox

* all the bands who donated tracks -- all of the above plus shut up & drive, anna roland, stendek, the whole sick crew, commichung, johnny saint & the hellrazors, ResistAll, & the trip daddys

* leon lamont for DJing between sets so we could avoid the pitfalls of the awkward silence

* jamie for making sure everyone could be heard

* peggy & kat for working the door & keeping the riffraff out

* catie for singlehandedly keeping everyone's thirst slaked

* jen & emily for taking pictures

* john for letting us borrow his PA, oh, & for pretty much everything

* john's dad for digitally recording the entire show, & rich for operating the camera in his absence

* terry & bill @ the VFW for donating the hall & letting us be as loud as we wanted to be

* molly for making snacks for the bands

* james, trista, nick, ryne, alex, & everyone else who came early & helped color signs

* the moms for kicking ass & taking names

* &, of course, everyone who came & donated cans & bought t-shirts & CDs, especially the three Adam's Off Ox superfans who stayed for the entire show from start to finish

well. now that THAT'S out of the way, we can get on with the truly important stuff: watching TV, sleeping till noon, & driving around aimlessly. oh, & putting out albums, if there's time. rockcha.

next time i have to turn around, i'm taking everyone back home; oh, yeah, & did you know we're planning a benefit show?

all right, kids, give it a rest. jesus, i leave town for five days & you act like it's the end of the world!

so ok, what do you need to know from me now, my little darlings?

you need to know, i think, that preparations for the benefit show are fully underway & that we're ready if YOU are. (actually, we're ready even if you're NOT, but just get your head in the game & GET READY, ok?) you need to know that i received a box of johnny d originals in the mail yesterday -- our beauteous MapleHood stickers -- & they're amazingly amazing! you need to know that i'm STILL silkscreening shirts like a crazy person, & that, come hell or high water, they WILL be finished next weekend, oh yes they will. (up yours, flooded basement!)

you DEFINITELY need to know that the comp is quite possibly the best thing i've ever heard. yeah, ok, you got me: the benefit show was all just an elaborate ruse so we could get all of our favorite bands to give us shiny new tracks for the Ultimate Mix CD. WHATEVER -- YOU KNOW YOU WISH YOU'D THOUGHT OF IT FIRST.

oh, & of COURSE you need to know that the 5th is ben goldfish's birthday, & that we miss him & hope he comes back to visit a lot from his glamorous PETA job out in virginia!

finally, YES, andy, photos are up from your show last friday ... see if you can guess my favorite. (hint: it doesn't involve anyone actually onstage.)
